Computer Terminology/Computer Memory/The Difference Between
SDRAM and DDR RAM are memory integrated circuits used incomputers. The difference between the two is the speed becauseSDRAM is a single data rate which is slower than DDR RAM thatstands for the double data rate. Which means the chip reads orwrites two words of data per clock cycle.

What is the basic difference between SDRAM and DDR RAM?
DDR standards for 'Double Data Rate'. DDR can transfer data on both the rising and falling edge of the clock signal, whereas standard SD ram can onle transfer data on one or the other. This means data throughput on DDR memory is twice as fast, hence the name 'Double Data Rate'. Also, they are physically different: A DDR modules has one notch on the contact strip, SD modules have two. i donot know SDRAM comes… Read More

My computer specs say DDR SDRAM will it be able to support DDR as well or just DDR SDRAM?
The term DDR SDRAM refers to the phrase 'double data rate synchronous dynamic random access memory'. DDR SDRAM is simply a faster version of SDRAM in which data travels at a double rate. If your computer specs say that it uses DDR SDRAM it can take DDR SDRAM, but not SDRAM. DDR is 184 pins and has a notch in the bottom near the center and you will be unable to put DDR in an… Read More

Most desktops and notebooks use one of the three most popular types of synchronous dynamic random access memory (SDRAM) for the main system memory. Single data rate (SDR) SDRAM is the older type of memory, commonly used in computers prior to 2002. Double data rate (DDR) SDRAM hit the mainstream computer market around 2002, and DDR2-based systems hit the market in mid-2004. DDR SDRAM is a straightforward evolution from SDR SDRAM. Can you Upgrade your system from using regular sdram to ddr ram? What is the most common video RAM technology for a laptop video card? What is the difference between SDR RAM and DDR RAM?
DDR stands for 'Double Data Rate.' This means that each time your computer gets data, it gets it on the upcycle of the clock as well as the downcycle of the clock. So it is catching double the data than before -- which means it can process twice as fast. SDRAM stands for 'Synchronous Ram.' The RAM is synchronized with the clock cycle and grabs a chunk of data each clock cycle so… Read More

For many years I've been playing the same DDRUK and ITG simfiles without checking if anything newer was available. Recently I found this site & started catching up on everything I've missed, including the switch to the new 1-20 scale.
Having old-scale and new-scale files in Stepmania messes up difficulty sorting & also messes up courses select random songs by difficulty. I'm not really interested in converting all the old stuff to the new scale, I'd much rather convert the newer stuff to either the ITG 1-13 scale or the old DDR 1-10 scale (both of which are pretty much compatible with each other, except that some DDR 10's would be 11 or 12 on ITG). I'd prefer to use a formula & some bulk search/replaces rather than having to handle each song individually. It doesn't have to be incredibly accurate, I just need to figure out something in the ballpark. I'm trying to put together something like this as an example: 20 -> 13 19 -> 13 18 -> 12 17 -> 12 ... That may be wrong already, since I played an 18 & it was more like an ITG 11 than a 12. Does anyone have any suggestions? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. In general it's probably something in this ballpark:
New Scale - Old Scale 20 -> -> -> -> -> -> -> 13 19 -> -> -> -> -> -> -> 13 18 -> -> -> -> -> -> -> 12 17 -> -> -> -> -> -> -> 12/11 16 -> -> -> -> -> -> -> 11 15 -> -> -> -> -> -> -> 10 14 -> -> -> -> -> -> -> 10/9 13 -> -> -> -> -> -> -> 9 12 -> -> -> -> -> -> -> 9/8 11 -> -> -> -> -> -> -> 8 10 -> -> -> -> -> -> -> 8/7 9 -> -> -> -> -> -> -> 7/6 8 -> -> -> -> -> -> -> 6/5 7 -> -> -> -> -> -> -> 5 6 -> -> -> -> -> -> -> 4 5 -> -> -> -> -> -> -> 4/3 Beyond that point I dunno. I'm sure you can use your judgment. Post #3 · Posted at 2014-06-20 05:31:04pm 5 years ago
Conveting DDR scale to ITG scale doesn't make sense.
ITG ratings are genreally focused on how physically draining the song is. Some really tricky songs will still get low ratings because they are not hard to pass. (I often score 96%+ on a dumb streamy 14, and get 92% on a 12 with 24th bursts and gimmicks and footswitch hells) DDR ratings focuses on the complexity of patterns. 16 can be as fast and as draining as 18, but 18 will be full of nightmarish patterns that will require ninja foot techniques. (Triple journey 16 is basically dragonforce, ngo 18 is slow but has retarded patterns) Also, for DDR, I recommend you stick to the new scale, I makes much more sense. As for converting the ratings automatically, I dunno, probably doable with some notepad++ magic, didn't bother trying acutally. I agree it's pretty annoying to have the 2 scales conflictiong in your stepmania. That's why I have Stepmania for DDR and oITG for ITG Post #4 · Posted at 2014-06-20 06:04:21pm 5 years ago
Conveting DDR scale to ITG scale doesn't make sense.
This on its own is a fine answer. Going further on the DDR vs. ITG rating scales point, when itg customs were in their infancy there were a lot more charts with ambigious patterning (not nessecarily crossovers and turns but seemingly forced doublesteps) that contributed to higher difficulty for songs with slower/less steps, nowadays the patterning is usually easy to sightread. This being said ambigious patterning can contribute to higher difficulty because of needing to expend more energy to perform them - see PRevo for the most extreme example but things like New Decade feel like that to me too. For this reason I rate the higher DDR charts higher than most people seem to do because it expends a lot of energy like a reasonable stream. In conclusion, I would do something like this: DDR 19 -> ITG 14 DDR 18 -> ITG 13 17 -> 12 16 -> 11 15 -> 10 14 -> 9 then from there Astroman is spot on. On the other hand I'm pretty bad at technical patterns so I could be completely off base. Thanks to Lord Toon for the wonderful sig image! If you'd like a review on a contest chart, PM me! (Reviews will probably be given on or around the Friday after the PM fyi.) Post #5 · Posted at 2014-06-20 07:24:21pm 5 years ago
why
Post #6 · Posted at 2014-06-20 11:31:44pm 5 years ago
and it'll be 200 BPM 16th stream crossovers with jumps randomly thrown in.
Like what FAXX , FELM , and New Decade have already done years ago? (400BPM 8ths = 200BPM 16ths) 200BPM is honestly not all that fast anymore. It needs to be more along the lines of 230-250BPM with 16ths, or 180-200BPM with 24ths. In regards to adding random jumps, why not add jacks and foot-switches as well?
then DDR will actually have something to challenge the insane bastards in the ITG community like Aoreo or Mad Matt.
Until the day I see DDR having 'Tachyon-Series Hard' stepcharts, I don't see this happening. Comments are closed.
